Monika Alters is a Branding and Marketing Consultant and a Professor of Digital Media at the University of Houston. Over the last three years, she and her students have won numerous prizes for their branding and marketing projects for clients in various industries. In 2017, she was honored with the “Woman of Distinction” Award for her contributions to the digital media field.
Originally from Poland, Professor Monika moved to United States in 1996 as an exchange student in high school. Her American host-family exposed her to graphic design and printing and Monika decided to pursue an Associates degree in Advertising/Graphic Design from Kilgore Community College. Professor Alters later moved to Houston on a scholarship to pursue her Bachelors degree in Technology Leadership Supervision and, subsequently, Masters in Training and Development. She later obtained Masters of Divinity and was ordained as a Christian minister.
Professor Monika Alters joined the University of Houston as a full-time faculty in 2005. She teaches courses in epublishing, computer graphics, web design, and integrated media. She is the former President of the newly renamed Graphic Communications Education Association - GCEA (former International Graphics Education Association), past Director of College Relations for the Houston Production Management Association and the current faculty sponsor of a student chapter of GCEA (GCEAUH). She published several articles in the Visual Communications Journal and presented her research topics and findings during numerous national and local conferences. In 2011, the received eMedia Pro certification from IDEAlliance and developed a course in ePublishing. In her spare time, Monika leads a women's Bible study, designs jewelry, and plays with her two dogs.
